Before going to visit the school we had to have an interview which determined if we would get into timbertop. The main thing about timbertop is that because it is such an odd and interesting opportunity and it is only available for grade 9 lots of Australian family's would attempt to get their children in and after that one year of boarding school they would miss their children to much and bring them home. But because Timbertop is a business they can't allow this so students that won't stay on get a 25% chance of getting in while the rest of us get 75%.
This was a similar problem with us. No matter how much I annoyed my mum and she threatened to send me away she wouldn't be able to as she missed me to much. But because we are a homeless bunch of nomads until February and we are traveling until then I managed to convince her that a couple of years in boarding schools would alow me to have some sort of stability and allow them to rid themselves of me wich is probably a reason why any mother would send their kids to boarding school.

The interview was at Geelong grammar's main campus Corio. We had a quick tour of the campus (so quick that we only saw the sports facilities the church and the cafeteria) then the 4 of us went to an office and started our interview. Alexander had already done his interview, he was just there to visit the school. So the three of us, Chris, Sydney and I, sat on to small a couch with the parents on our left Alexander on our right and admissions director infront of us. It was a gruellingly long interview we had a rotation of questions going from one interviewee to another. And I know for sure I spent a third of the time staring at the flag being hammered by the constant wind and the pattern the bricks made on the wall outside. But overall I think it went pretty good for all except alexander who didn't even have his interview that day but he already knew he wouldn't be able to stay on after Timbertop.
The next day we traveled up to a hotel in the middle of nowhere which had the only restaurant for miles and the day after traveled up to timber top. I was actually quite pleased with what I learned (I'll explain later). But first we had to pack our bags, eat breakfast and get lost. You know usual things you do when you have to be somewhere on time or you'll miss the bus. We got on the bus just in time and we had the short ride up the mountain. We all converged in the chapel and where given a presentation. Yet again I was distracted and spent the presentation looking at the chapel and its structural integrity. To be fair I read the entire booklet so anything he would of said would of been in that booklet.
After the presentation we got assigned to various students who wanted to take us on a tour of the school. Each pair got two families. …
Now when ever u see this '…' it means I had to skip something because my parents tell me to "be care-ful what you put on the in-tee-net ah. Your di-gi-tal foot-print will stay with you for evah" ( say that with a Chinese accent makes it funnier). So you missed the "(I'll explain)" later cause I'm not allowed to explain later. Rejoice in the fact that u missed something that had the possibility of being hysterical. Yupee.
Anyway the students brought us around the school explained the facilities and gave me a real down to earth idea of what its gonna be like.
Now if you want to complain to my parents about the fact that they are censoring me their emails are mgmasterman@gmail.com and hollymasterman@gmail.com (they won't be happy about that. Make sure u send them lots of spam). If you want to checkout Timbertop or Geelong grammar click the link (THE LINK -> http://www.ggs.vic.edu.au/school/our-campuses <-) or if that doesn't work just don't be lazy and copy and paste the thing. and if you are really lazy I'll just give you the basics.
Timbertop is one year at Geelong grammar, grade 9, in this year the school sends their students from Corio to another campus Timbertop. This is a year where all students board in a campus in the country the idea is to prepare the kids for adult hood giving them certain challenges to make them grow. The main challenges are: you run every day doing mini marathons every term and then run a 28k marathon at the end of the year, you hike up various mountains surrounding the school, you learn to live completely apart from family only getting holidays every 4 weeks to see them (not to bad) and there are absolutely 0 electronics that have the possibility of socialising with the outside world except the school ones. Otherwise its like any boarding school with a normal curriculum and normal rules.
and then we went back to Melbourne.
And thats all for today. Dads pressuring me to push the button. Please follow my blog or comment other wise i feel like I'm an old granny who sits at home knitting and uses her blog to advertise her hand knit sweaters and brag about her children/ grandchildren. Remember to check out THE LINK if you are a parent looking for the chance to have an extended holiday or a child who wants to run away from their inept family.
